From 1972 to 1978, there were 49 different Zoomers that each brought games, recipes, science experiments, short plays and even their own Ubbi-Dubbi language. Join us for a conversation with original cast members Tommy White, Leon Mobley, and Bernadette Yao series creator Christopher Sarson and David Kamp, author of Sunny Days: The Children’s Television Revolution That Changed America, about the conception of ZOOM in the wake of Sesame Street, its lasting legacy, and its continued relevance. The entire cast of Zoom wore black low cut Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars. Developed by Christopher Sarson, this largely unscripted show featured a DIY aesthetic and a cast made up almost entirely of non-professional kids. Before it referred to the now ubiquitous online conversation platform, ZOOM was the name of an educational children’s television program that premiered on PBS in 1972.
